You Can’t Choose Everyone  
In theory, selecting bridesmaids are a fun process to round up all your favourite people and share your special day with them. In reality, there could be so many groups of people to select between your sisters, cousins, childhood friends, secondary school besties, JC/poly cliques, University girlfriends, colleagues and the list goes on.  Recognise the fact that it’s impossible to include everyone as much as you would like to!

Roles and Responsibilities of a Bridesmaid
What are your expectations of your bridesmaids? Do you expect your ladies to accompany you during your gown selection process, help out in DIY wedding favours/invitation cards, wedding décor etc? Or do you just want them to wear the bridesmaid dresses and show up on the actual day? If it’s the former, think carefully about selecting ladies with hectic schedules that cannot commit.

By first understanding your expectations and needs, next factor in the current situation of those ladies you intend to ask. For instance, your friend may be making a career switch and very swamped with work or your best friend that just had a baby and have no time to accompany you for your bridal gown selection. Even though they might not end up being your bridesmaids due to their circumstances, they can still be your pillar of moral support during your wedding planning process.

Returning the Bridesmaid Invitation
There is always a pressure to return the favour just because someone has asked you to be her bridesmaid for her wedding.  Truth is that there is no need to feel obligated to reciprocate the invitation. Should the person be hurt and bring up why they are not in the bridal party, be honest and explain the tough decision you have to make. Remember, you can’t choose everyone.

Who is Bridesmaid Worthy?
Think about this for a moment. If in the event that you turned into a bridezilla in front of your girls, do you have some ladies in your life that would not take it to heart and instead do their best to help you alleviate your stress? Pick excited, enthusiastic ladies that you know would have your back no matter what happens.

A tip would be to choose people who genuinely want to be in your wedding and are truly happy for you. Follow your heart in the selection process and remember that surrounding yourself with an awesome bridal party that will be a good support system makes all the difference.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's an honour to be invited to a wedding. The wedding couple has chosen to invite you to share their joy and union. However, do you know what is expected of a wedding guest? We have compiled a list of Do's of attending a Wedding and hope you find this useful.

DO RSVP promptly and remember to turn up
Have you ever received two or three reminders to check if you are attending a wedding?  Spare a thought for the wedding couple! Guests failing to RSVP in a timely manner impede the planning of their guest list and sitting plan.
 

When you do RSVP that you are attending the wedding, add this important date immediately to your schedule/phone calendar and remember to turn up for the wedding. It is basic manners to respect the wedding couple and show up on that day.

 

DO be on time
In Singaporean weddings, it is common that wedding dinners start later than what is stated in the invite. However, that might not be true for all weddings especially luncheons or Sunday wedding dinners.  Thus, it would be best to arrive at the time stated on the invitation.  Doing your part to come on time as a wedding guest also allows the wedding banquet to start timely.

DO follow the seating plan
You may wonder why you are seated with a group of people that has no common interests to you however, the wedding couple have thought carefully about the seating arrangement and there is a reason for it.

 

If there's a specific seating plan at your table, show respect to the couple by not swopping seats with someone else.  Engage with the people sitting near you and make some new friends!

 

 

 

 

 

DO stay out of the photographer's way
We know how exciting it must be to snap and share photos using your own phone and social media accounts at crucial moments i.e when the wedding couple makes their grand entrance down the aisle.  After all, we are so incredibly happy for the couple it would not hurt to block the photographer so that we can take some precious shots right?  Allow the official photographer to do their job! Stay out of the photographer's way and wait to see the official gorgeous photos to ensure that the beautiful memories of their big day can be professionally captured.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO be respectful of the couple's culture and religion
If a ritual is being performed that you do not understand, resist the temptation to make comments and keep quiet.  If required, do ask or research prior to the event.

In a church or temple setting, this might also mean dressing more conservatively for the occasion.
